Motion 16: Limit of Registration Period

This Conference believes that in order to encourage engagement and motivate patients’ self-responsibility in their oral health the time period of registration should be limited. [Greater Glasgow & Clyde LDC]

    The lapsed patient often requires more urgent treatment, is more anxious and requires “extended time” yet payment if no greater and the capitation is reduced rather than increased. Time set aside in diaries if not filled did not give remuneration therefore the tendency was to limit the time to a minimum often less than the lapsed patient would require.
    However it is likely the our current model of dental care is changing and not every patient enjoys dental treatment. Would it not be better to ask for protected (funded) time to deal appropriately with emergencies for those in need. Perhaps this motion could be reworded to
    This Conference believes that under an SDR model of dental treatment in order to encourage engagement and motivate patients’ self-responsibility in their oral health the time period of registration should be limited
