We agree in principle with this motion however, we feel the post should be an ‘elected post’ rather than a Scottish Government appointment. This would allow a maximum term to be served and also allow the individual to stand for re-election at end of their term, should they wish to do so.

The idea that the CDO has up to date GDP experience is correct and in the old days when I was a boy that was the case. However it would be more pertinent that this stipulation was applied to the GDC, NES and PSD who all have a [moderated] attitude towards hard working, conscientious, honest GDPs and who all attempt to control intimidate and punish the profession.
What you have to remember is that the CDO is a servant of Queen Nicola and her cohorts and is no way ultimately responsible for the Covid shambles.
Furthermore too short a term of office is not helpful where experience and continuity is more important than short termism in managing long term policy

I also feel this should not be an appointed post but an elected post which would give us someone who knows what an MB2 is!
