2021 Conference Agenda

Statement from our previous Chair Judith Brady:

When I took over as Chair of the Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees in 2019 I was excited and up for the challenge. When Covid-19 struck and the subsequent lockdown, this meant there was no option but to cancel the annual Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees which was scheduled to take place in Stirling in April 2020. Since then, the profession has had to adapt to a new way of working, which has been particularly challenging and stressful.

Conference 2021

In 2021 the Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees had to adapt and took place via video conference on 23 April 2021. The conference consisted of speakers in the morning session followed by motions in the afternoon session. In 2021, we heard presentations from Helen Kaney from Dental Protection, Derek Manson from the NIDPC (Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee) and David McColl (Chair of Scottish Dental Practice Committee). There were also question and answer sessions after each presentation.

Our afternoon session consisted of motions submitted by Local Dental Committees throughout Scotland. These motions were debated and voted on by the delegates at Conference. If the motion passed, it was then taken to Scottish Dental Practice Committee as policy.

The Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees is an important event as it gives the profession a voice to effect change in how dentistry in Scotland is provided. We would encourage all General Dental Practitioners to get involved and support their Local Dental Committee.
